Before You Donate
To ensure both donor safety and blood quality, please follow these guidelines:
- Eat a light meal 20–30 minutes before donating
- Get a good night’s sleep the day before
- Avoid donating if unwell or on antibiotics, aspirin, or blood thinners
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before donation
- Don’t smoke for 30 minutes after donating
- Avoid intense physical activity for 2–3 hours post-donation
How Blood is Collected
Before donation, each donor undergoes a medical screening, including:
- Medical History Check
- Hemoglobin Test
- Weight & Height Measurement
- Blood Group Determination
All donated blood is screened for Hepatitis B & C, HIV, Syphilis, and Malaria, ensuring maximum transfusion safety.
Blood Component Preparation
Every donation is used efficiently by separating it into vital components:
- PRBC (Packed Red Blood Cells)
- Platelet Concentrate (RDP)
- Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)
- Cryoprecipitate
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
- Platelet Apheresis (SDP) — collected via apheresis machine for enhanced patient safety
Blood Storage & Quality Control
We follow international standards for blood storage and conduct regular quality checks:
- RBCs: 2–6°C with CPDA-1, shelf life: 35 days
- Plasma: Frozen within 6 hours at –30°C to –40°C, shelf life: 1 year
- Platelets: Stored at 20–24°C with continuous agitation, shelf life: 5 days
Routine checks include blood count, pH levels, and bacterial culture to maintain quality.
